Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy: The death toll in the tragic Kallakurichi hooch tragedy rose to 53 on Saturday. The Tamil Nadu Police have so far arrested seven people in connection with the case. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Subramanian Ma visited the Government Medical College and Hospital to meet the hooch tragedy victims and inquired about the treatment being provided to them.
“Till now 185 people have been hospitalised at four hospitals, Kallakurichi Hospital, JIPMER Hospital in Puducherry, Salem government hospital, and Viluppuram Government Hospital. Till now, 50 people have died. Our higher officials have been here for the past three days and are continuously monitoring the situation," the DMK leader was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

- The Tamil Nadu Health Minister also emphasised that Chief Minister MK Stalin has taken quick action in the incident. “CM has announced 10 lakhs for those who lost their life. Whereas the sports minister Udhayanidhi Stalin also came here yesterday (Thursday) and met with the family members and gave money to them," he said.

- Stalin on Friday said that the state government would cover all education and hostel fees for children who lost one or both of their parents in the Kallakuruchi Hooch tragedy.
- A ruckus broke out in the Tamil Nadu Assembly in Chennai on Friday as AIADMK leaders raised slogans demanding discussion on the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy in which at least 50 people have died so far.
- The opposition leaders reached the Assembly wearing black clothes and demanded the resignation of CM Stalin taking responsibility for the deaths. The AIADMK MLAs led by Leader of the Opposition and party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami were also evicted en masse from the House by the Marshals on Friday.
- Speaking in the Assembly, the Tamil Nadu CM said that the Opposition has done ‘cheap politics of walking out’. For those who said that the Chief Minister should resign… Without going anywhere, I have listed the steps taken in this matter,” he said.

- Meanwhile, the three accused in the incident identified as Govindaraj, Damadoran and Vijaya were sent to 15 days of judicial custody and taken to Cudallore Central Prison. The accused were sent to Cuddalore Central Prison.
