On the episode that happened at the Waqf Board joint parliamentary committee (JPC) meeting on Tuesday, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said he will continue to fight against non-secular forces. Banerjee injured himself after he smashed a glass bottle during a heated argument with MP Abhijit Ganguly.

"I will keep fighting against non-secular forces. My fight will continue against the people who are trying to make the character of this country non-secular from secular," news agency ANI reported Banerjee as saying.

Meanwhile, DMK leader and a member of the Waqf Board, A Raja, has raised concerns over the confidentiality of the meeting. He rebuked JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal for conducting a press conference and divulging the details of the proceedings. “It is unfortunate that the JPC chairperson (Jagdambika Pal) conducted a press conference and revealed the proceedings and happenings of the meeting, knowing fully well that the proceedings are confidential and not to be disclosed,” the DMK MP said.

Raja also alleged the meetings were being conducted in haste. “In spite of the unpleasant incident that took place in the meeting, the attitude and manner in which the meetings are conducted in haste by the chairperson create doubts in the minds of the members and public that justice will not be secured,” he added.

Kalyan Banerjee was suspended for a day and two meetings following his ‘unruly’ behaviour in the JPC meeting. Jagdambika Pal also apprised Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla about the incident.
