The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack at the Congress-led Karnataka government over the collapse of an under-construction building in Bengaluru that claimed five lives. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Wednesday referred to the state government as corrupt, adding that the "only focus" of the grand old party is to "loot the land of the poor".

"It is unfortunate that the corrupt Karnataka government did not know that unauthorised building construction was taking place in Bengaluru. The Karnataka government of the Congress party, which is neck deep in corruption, has caused a bad name to Silicon Valley. It is unfortunate that the only focus of the Karnataka government, including Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, and Kharge, is to loot the land of the poor, rather than to take care of the common man," he said.

"Bengaluru has never seen such apathetic misgovernance as it is experiencing now. This has led to the loss of common lives, of innocent lives. This is not merely an accident. This is akin to murder, and the state is accountable for it. The Karnataka Congress government needs to answer for that," he added.

He also asked how an unauthorised construction could occur in the heart of the city without government awareness.

Deputy CM Shivakumar Reacts To Bengaluru Building Collapse

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday night took stock of the situation in the Horamavu Agara area in the eastern part of Bengaluru and ensured that strict action will be taken against the owner and everyone linked to the incident. Shivakumar also claimed that illegal activities were going on and he would take strict action against the owner and everyone.

He said, "I was told that there was no permission given. Illegal activities were going on. We will take strict action against the owner, contractor and everyone. In the entire Bengaluru, I will see that...We will come out with a decision. All the illegal construction will be stopped immediately...Contractor, my officials and even the owner of the property everyone will be booked under the law."
