A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three minor boys aged between 14 and 15 in Karnataka's Hubballi. Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the victim has been provided protection and all three accused have been detained.

“A complaint was filed that a minor girl has been subject to sexual harassment and assaulted by three accused. All three accused happen to be minors in the age group of 14 to 15. We have taken them into custody,” N Shashikumar, Police Commissioner, Hubballi-Dharwad, said.

On Saturday, Karnataka Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the minors for sexual assault. According to the police, the girl was allegedly assaulted repeatedly over a week while her parents were away during the day.

“A complaint was filed that a minor girl has been subject to sexual harassment and assaulted by three accused. All three accused happen to be minors in the age group of 14 to 15. We have taken them into custody,” N Shashikumar, Police Commissioner, Hubballi-Dharwad, said.

N Shashikumar said the police will proceed strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. 

He added that the girl’s parents alleged the accused boys had threatened her, claiming they had recorded a video of the assault. The police are in the process of seizing the accused’s mobile phones and are carrying out a detailed investigation. Further probe into the matter is underway.

In a separate incident, a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, with the accused allegedly throwing her from a terrace to hide their identity. The incident was reported on January 2 after the child was found in a critical condition and rushed to Sikandrabad Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead.

The girl's father accused two men, identified as Veeru and Raju Kashyap, of committing the crime, stating that his daughter had been playing on the rooftop before being found in a field behind the building. Based on his complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act.
