Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar clarified that the composition of the Congress-led state cabinet will not be changed, ruling out the possibility of a reshuffle. Shivakumar said that he has requested an appointment to meet Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, fueling speculations of leadership tensions and discontent with the state Congress unit.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy and KPCC chief DK Shivakumar are also expected to meet Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and All-India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi on Wednesday night amid ongoing talks of leadership change.
“I have asked for time from Sonia Gandhi to meet her. Tomorrow, I may meet Rahul Gandhi because he is in Patna today. I’ve asked for an appointment," Shivakumar said while speaking to the reporters on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke on the issue of Chief Minister replacement in Karnataka and asserted that there is no doubt that he will continue as the CM of the state for five years. "Why should there be a doubt," Siddaramaiah said, day after Congress top leadership rejected media reports stating that Karnataka is soon going to witness a leadership change.
'What Options Do I Have': DK Shivakumar
Reacting to Siddaramaiah's affirmation, DK Shivakumar, however, tried to put an end to the rumours and said, "What options do I have? I have to stand by him and support him."
"I don't have any objection to it. Whatever the party high command tells and whatever they decide, it will be fulfilled. I don't want to discuss anything now. Lakhs of workers are supporting this party," Shivakumar added.
