The Chief Minister of Karnataka received a strange handwritten letter from a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fan from Belagavi, requesting him to declare a public holiday for the day RCB wins the Indian Premier League (IPL) across the state.
RCB fan named Shivanand Mallannavar, proposed that the win should be celebrated and the day be officially recognised as "RCB Fans’ Festival", in the way Karnataka Rajyotsava is celebrated.
In the letter, which is going viral on social media, Mallannavar proposed that the day should not only be recognised by a holiday, but statewide celebrations should take place, and there should be a formal arrangement for festivities in all districts.
The RCB fan’s request comes after RCB's win over Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 match, which secured their spot in the IPL 2024 final.
Going a step further, Mallannavar proposed that the date of RCB's potential IPL win be marked as an annual celebration, allowing fans across Karnataka to relive the potential historic achievement.
On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reached the final of the IPL for the first time in eight years. In a one-sided match, RCB registered a dominant eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings.
Earlier, RCB reached the finals of IPL thrice in 2009, 2011 and 2016 but could not claim the trophy; it is still in search of its maiden title. The team will clash for the trophy in Ahmedabad on June 3 as fans hope this could finally be the season the team lifts its first IPL trophy.
