The Karnataka government on Tuesday announced that they will waive arrears amounting to Rs 389 crore of three different scheme beneficiaries who were getting power either free of cost or in subsidy rates. Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George said that the decision to turn down the arrears will affect ‘Kuteera Bhagya’, ‘Bhagya Jyoti’ and ‘Amruta Jyoti’ scheme beneficiaries in the state.
KJ George stated that the Congress-led government had already merged these three schemes with its ambitious ‘Gruha Jyoti’ scheme offering free electricity up to 200 units to residential power connections.
“Earlier, beneficiaries of ‘Kuteera Bhagya’ and ‘Bhagya Jyoti’ were getting 40 units and ‘Amruta Jyoti’ beneficiaries 75 units. We have decided that those getting 40 units will now get 50 units plus 10 units and those getting 75 units will get an additional 10 per cent,” George said as quoted by news agency PTI.
The minister stated that there were arrears of Rs 389 crore for the beneficiaries of these electricity schemes after which he spoke to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and he decided to waive it off for the social welfare of the people.
