A government official in Kerala’s Thrissur was suspended on Monday for conducting a prayer at the workplace. The child development officer, KA Bindhu, was suspended after a probe found him guilty of organising a prayer to remove “negative energy” at one of the Child Development Offices in the district.
Thrissur District Collector Krishna Teja ordered the probe into the incident in October when a contract employee of the Child Development Office wore a ceremonial Christian robe to the office and conducted a prayer allegedly in the direction of the office head, reported news agency IANS.
Officials said that the child development officer believed that some negative energy had gripped the office building and he wanted to get rid of it by conducting a prayer session in the office premises.
In another incident, a government school principal in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow was suspended last month for allowing a group of students to offer namaz on the school premises. The school principal, Meera Yadav, was suspended after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
An educational officer said that children offering namaz is contrary to departmental guidelines, which the school principal violated by giving permission to the group to perform namaz, reported IANS.
"A separate strict warning has also been issued to other teachers of the school, Tehzeeb Fatima and Mamta Mishra, considering them accomplices in the said act" the official added.
