The Karnataka government revised the working hours of government offices in Vijayapura and Bagalkote districts of Belagavi division, along with all districts in the Kalaburagi division, for April and May due to extreme summer heat. According to the order issued on Wednesday, government offices in these areas will function from 8 AM to 1.30 PM during these two months.
The decision follows a proposal by the Karnataka State Government Employees Association, Bengaluru, which highlighted the challenges faced by employees due to high temperatures. The government acknowledged these concerns and approved the temporary change to help employees manage their work more comfortably.
"In view of the factors described in the proposal, and in view of high temperatures in the months of April and May of 2025, Vijayapura and Bagalkote districts of Belagavi Division and all the districts of Kalaburagi Division have been ordered to change the schedule of government offices from 8 AM to 1.30 PM in the months of April and May," the order said.
Additionally, the order emphasised that government employees in these districts must continue to discharge their duties efficiently, without any omissions or interruptions. It also specifies that employees may be required to work beyond the scheduled hours if instructed by District Commissioners or Executive Officers of Zilla Panchayats in case of emergencies.

Bengaluru Water Tariff Likely To Increase
In a separate development, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is likely to increase the city's water tariff by one paisa per litre.
Amid BJP's protests against rising prices, Shivakumar defended the Congress government's decision, calling the opposition "anti-farmer" for objecting to the milk price hike. He asserted that the increase was aimed at benefiting farmers.
