Karnataka News:  The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), a government recruitment body for admission and recruitment in the state of Karnataka, has banned any form of head cover during the upcoming boards and other exams in the state. While issuing fresh directives, KEA along with a usual ban on electronics, stipulated the new 'head cover' ban inside the examination hall, news agency ANI reported.

The latest announcement came as recruitment exams are scheduled on November 18 and 19 throughout state halls. According to the KEA, this measure is implemented as a proactive step to prevent exam malpractices involving Bluetooth audio devices. Karnataka Examination Authority has also banned any kind of electronic gadgets like phones and Bluetooth earphones inside the examination hall.

However, the new dress guidelines do not explicitly mention 'Hijab', it is highly unlikely that it will be permitted. In earlier KEA examinations, women candidates had to come early for thorough checks for any such Bluetooth devices. Following the checking, they were allowed in the hall with their headscarves.

Previously, the Karnataka government permitted candidates to don a Hijab during recruitment exams organized by the KEA. The examinations, held on October 28 and 29 to fill positions in five corporations, were subject to this allowance.

The controversy surrounding the Hijab emerged in January 2022 when six girls wearing hijabs were reportedly prevented from entering the Government PU College in Udupi. Subsequently, the girls staged a protest outside the college, expressing their objection to the denial of entry.
