A day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sparked controversy by saying that he was not in favour of war, his fellow Cabinet minister RB Timmapur has made another controversial statement on the Pahalgam terror attack, the NDTV reported.
While speaking to the media, he said that he did not think that terrorists would have asked about their religion of those killed in the attack. He said, Excise Minister Timmapur said, "A man who is shooting, will he ask caste or religion? He will just shoot and go. Think practically. He will not stand there, ask and then shoot."
He added, "I feel they didn't ask about religion when they were carrying out the terror attack. In case they did, there shouldn't be this madness of using such a statement to politicise the issue based on religion."
BJP calls it 'wicked and barbaric'
Reacting to this statement, BJP leader CR Kesavan termed it 'wicked and barbaric' and added that he insulted the integrity of the mourning families.
Hitting out at Congress, he said, "Even in this hour of national grief, the communal Congress has completely forsaken and mortgaged its conscience and soul to bigoted vote bank politics of religious appeasement and is peddling the politics of polarisation and division."
"Congress Minister Timmapur has said that these Pahalgam terrorists would not have asked the name and religion of the victims and that it is unfair to target a religion... Are they saying that these helpless victims' families are lying?" the BJP leader added.
Notably, Siddaramaih’s remarks had triggered controversy, which has been further fueled by Minister Timmpur. When asked about the CM’s statement, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that he would not comment on it as the top brass, like party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, have already spoken about it.
