The Karnataka government has decided to form an expert panel consisting of scientists and doctors to investigate the potential adverse effects of the Covid-19 vaccine. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to establish the committee and ensure the strict implementation of its recommendations to mitigate risks, including deaths, linked to the vaccine. This decision comes amid a rise in sudden cardiac deaths in the state.
Senior journalist Rajaram Tallur expressed concerns in an email to the Chief Minister, highlighting that the recent sudden deaths of young individuals have caused significant socio-economic challenges for several families.
“A public debate attributing these deaths to the side effects of the Covid vaccine has been going on for a long time. So it is high time that the government takes note of the issue, identify the reasons and take preventive measures,” Tallur wrote.
Siddaramaiah has directed the expert committee to assess trends, pinpoint risk factors, and recommend preventive measures. Additionally, he has instructed the Chief Secretary to supervise the process and ensure prompt action is taken.
“The government is very much concerned about the issue as there are reports about even children of the age group 10-12 years suffering heart attacks. While there is sporadic information about the side-effects of the Covid-19 vaccine, we want to get an authenticated study report and the expert panel is being constituted for the purpose,” Dr H Ravikumar, medical advisor to CM was quoted as saying by Times of India.
The central government has already initiated a similar study, and there have been public complaints and petitions filed in court. Some vaccine manufacturers have even acknowledged side effects like Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS), which can lead to blood clots and low platelet counts.
Several of these pharmaceutical companies are currently facing class-action lawsuits, accusing them of causing serious injuries and deaths due to their vaccines.
