Karnataka Power Shift: A day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah resigned from his post, the Congress high command on Friday is likely to finalise the setup of the next government. DK Shivakumar, the current deputy chief minister and KPCC chief, is the frontrunner for the top post. As per the Congress sources, four deputy chief ministers could be appointed in the new government to maintain the social and regional balance, reported Jagran.com.

While Shivakumar is expected to be given the chief ministerial post, the close aides of Siddaramaiah could be given the key portfolios to balance the power. As per the reports, Shivakumar will meet Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi today to discuss a reshuffle of the state cabinet.

The reports further suggested that Siddaramaiah had earlier proposed the idea of multiple deputy CMs; however, Shivakumar had his reservations on the matter. Apart from this, Yatindra, Siddaramaiah's son and Member of the Legislative Council, is also expected to be included in Shivakumar's cabinet. The decision is being considered critical to carry forward the legacy of Siddaramaiah and manage the internal rift.

The Congress is likely to win two of the total three Rajya Sabha seats in the upcoming polls. Apart from this, the party has also lead on the third seat; however, it still needs a few additional votes. As per the sources, Randeep Surjewala, the AICC in-charge, will present a panel of names for two of the three Rajya Sabha seats.

Earlier on Thursday, Siddaramaiah asserted that he will continue to work in Karnataka despite being offered a Rajya Sabha seat. "I have given my resignation after a suggestion by the party high command. I have told the party high command that I don't want to go to the Rajya Sabha. I remain in Karnataka politics till my last breath," Siddaramaiah said.
