Truckers across Karnataka are set to launch an indefinite strike starting at midnight, protesting rising fuel prices and alleged harassment at toll plazas. The strike has been called by the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Association (FOKSLOAA), Karnataka's largest transport body, representing nearly six lakh trucks and 196 trucker associations.

FOKSLOAA's honorary general secretary, Somasundaram Balan, confirmed there would be no change in the strike plan, citing the state government’s inaction. “We will go ahead with our strike because the Karnataka government has not called us for any meeting yet,” Balan said, reiterating their demands related to fuel cost hikes and toll-related issues.

In a letter to its members, the federation cited several unresolved issues. A major concern is the steep rise in Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel, which has led to a Rs 5 per litre hike in fuel prices over the past nine months, significantly raising operating costs.

The truckers also complained about alleged extortion and harassment at state toll plazas, which they say adds undue financial stress. They further opposed the continued presence of border checkposts despite GST implementation and objected to the proposed hike in fitness renewal fees for older vehicles, which they claim disproportionately affects small and medium operators.

The federation also criticised unreasonable no-entry restrictions in Bengaluru that disrupt goods delivery schedules. Additionally, they alleged widespread harassment by Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and microfinance institutions, including unlawful vehicle seizures and mental distress for truck owners.
