Sharing its report on X (formerly Twitter), KSNDMC mentioned, “Scattered light to moderate rain with strong winds and thundershowers across the state. Coastal, Malnad and South Interior districts are likely to experience heavy rain from today to October 12.”

The report included a sub-division-wise forecast for three regions:

Coastal Karnataka: Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning predicted from October 8–11, easing after October 12.

Cyclonic Systems Behind The Rain Surge

Meteorologists attribute the rainfall surge to a cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu and a trough extending from coastal Andhra Pradesh to south interior Karnataka. Additionally, a new cyclonic system forming over the north Bay of Bengal on October 8 could further enhance rainfall along Karnataka’s coast and northern Tamil Nadu.

Skymet forecasts that Bengaluru may receive up to 100 mm of rainfall between October 8 and 12, marking a significant wet spell for the city this October.
