Karur Stampede Case: In a significant move in the Karur stampede case, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay is appearing before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi today, January 12, 2026.

The federal agency summoned Vijay as a part of its investigation into the tragic incident that occurred on September 27, 2025, during a TVK political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. The stampede claimed the lives of 41 people, including nine children and eight women, and left over 100 others injured. In October 2025, the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the incident.

What Will CBI Question Vijay On?

According to CNN News18 sources, the CBI is expected to question Vijay on the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Investigators are likely to ask what Vijay knew about the events as they unfolded on the day of the rally.

- Venue Awareness: The CBI will ask Vijay whether he was aware of the site's congestion and the actual number of people expected to attend the event.

- Arrival Delay: The federal agency will ask the reasons behind the seven-hour delay in reaching the venue, which some officials believe contributed to the crowd swelling.

- Emergency Response: The questioning is expected to include whether Vijay was aware of the commotion following the announcement of "missing child" and the subsequent police lathi charge used to control the crowd.

- Event Management: He will also be questioned on why he left the venue while the situation was still unfolding and what protocols were in place for crowd safety, the CNN News18 report added.
