Pahalgam Terror Attack: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, registering a fresh FIR and launching a detailed investigation. Following the attack, security forces in Kashmir have intensified combing operations in surrounding forests, while the state police are cracking down on suspected terror sympathisers across the Valley.

Late Thursday night, authorities demolished the homes of two local men believed to be linked to the Pahalgam attack. In a continued effort, four additional residences were destroyed in south Kashmir using explosives. These actions are part of a broader strategy to dismantle the support networks for terrorism in the region.

Action Against Terrorists In Kashmir

The intensified operations come after Union Home Minister Amit Shah instructed security agencies to take strong measures against terrorists and their supporters.

NIA Takes Charge Of Pahalgam Attack Investigation, Files New FIR

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, registering a new FIR. The NIA has also recreated the crime scene with assistance from eyewitnesses and has recorded their statements. 

Operations are being conducted by the Army, police and paramilitary forces, focusing on key areas connected to the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam. This meadow links to dense forests that extend to various locations, including Kokernag, Kishtwar, Sonamarg and Tral, as well as Dachigam National Park near Srinagar.

The Indian Express report cited, senior police officer , “The searches have been ongoing for the last three days. The forces are proceeding carefully from different directions.”

Over 2,000 Detained in Kashmir’s Crackdown on Terror Supporters

In a significant crackdown on the so-called “terror support structure,” the state police have detained over 2,000 individuals across the Valley in the past four days. In Srinagar district alone, police have raided the homes of at least 63 suspected sympathisers, including one woman, as part of their efforts to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem.

The police stated, “This decisive action aims to identify and take legal measures against those engaged in anti-national and criminal activities.” The objective of these searches is to seize weapons, documents, and digital devices for evidence collection and intelligence gathering.

175 Suspects Detained For Questioning In Anantnag

In Anantnag, police have detained 175 suspects for questioning as they continue to increase cordon-and-search operations, ambushes, and patrols in vulnerable areas. More mobile checkpoints have also been established on crucial routes.

So far, six homes have been demolished to discourage individuals from becoming militants. On Thursday night, the houses of Adil Ahmad Thoker and Asif Ahmad Sheikh, both suspected in the Pahalgam attack, were destroyed in Bijbehara and Tral. On Friday night, the homes of Ehsan-ul Haq in Pulwama, Shahid Ahmad in Shopian, and Zakir Ahmad in Kulgam were also demolished, along with the house of Farooq Ahmad Tedwa in Kupwara, who has been linked to past militant activities.
