Kashmir Snowfall: Kashmir’s winter season has made an early appearance this year, with light snowfall marking the beginning of the cold months in the region. On the morning of November 22, parts of Shopian and the historic Pir Ki Gali along the Mughal Road received their first snow of the season, adding a fresh layer of winter beauty to the landscape.
In the higher reaches of Shopian, snowflakes began to fall early in the day, gently covering the roads and surrounding scenery. This light snowfall signaled the arrival of the region's characteristic winter chill. The Pir Ki Gali stretch, located at an elevation of over 11,000 feet along the Mughal Road, also witnessed a brief but picturesque snow shower, which quickly turned the area into a winter wonderland.

A video clip shared online captured the scenic beauty of the Mughal Road, with its winding path now draped in a delicate blanket of snow. The road, renowned for its historical significance and panoramic views, attracted travelers and photographers eager to capture the moment. The snowfall added a layer of magic to the already stunning surroundings.
Kashmir Snowfall: Travel Advisory Issued for Mughal Road
As snowfall accumulated on the road surface, particularly around Peer Ki Gali, local authorities issued advisories for travelers using the Mughal Road. Given the high elevation of this historic route, visibility can decrease significantly during the late afternoon and evening hours, making travel conditions potentially hazardous. Authorities urged caution and advised travelers to plan their journeys during daylight hours to avoid any travel disruptions.
Kashmir Weather Forecast: More Snowfall in Coming Days
The Meteorological Department has indicated that light to moderate snowfall is expected in the higher reaches of Kulgam, Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal over the next few days, as western disturbances continue to influence Jammu and Kashmir’s weather patterns. These disturbances typically bring cold, wet conditions to the region during the winter months, causing snowfall in the upper areas while the plains remain dry.
