Chennai Weather: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across 11 districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, as a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal begins to intensify.
According to the latest bulletin, an atmospheric circulation over the southern Andaman Sea has set the stage for the formation of a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal by Saturday evening. The system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction, gradually strengthening into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 48 hours. Further intensification is possible as it tracks toward the Indian coast.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for the following districts: Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore. The neighboring Karaikal region in Puducherry is also likely to experience heavy showers.
In Chennai and surrounding areas, partly cloudy skies are expected throughout the day, with isolated light rain possible.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for fishermen, advising against venturing into the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal, including the adjacent Andaman Sea, due to rough seas and squally winds expected over the next two days. Fishermen already at sea have been urged to return to shore as soon as possible to avoid any risks associated with the intensifying weather system.
