Panic erupted in a popular tourist spot of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh on Saturday evening after an argument between tourists and local people led to a shooting, resulting in one person being injured.

The incident took place at around 6 PM at the Green Valley Hotel in Kasol, a tourist spot which has seen an unusually large crowd of tourists from different parts of the north, where the northern part is reeling under intense heatwave conditions. Police officials said that an altercation had ensued between tourists (from Punjab) and residents inside a hotel, namely Green Valley, in the afternoon, which spilt over into a brawl in the evening.

A tourist allegedly opened fire with a weapon during a scuffle. The local, suffering a bullet injury to his leg, fell unconscious. As per an NDTV report, the locals later took him and rushed him to the hospital. 

According to an eyewitness, the alleged shooter tried to fire again after reloading his gun, but people accompanying him prevented him from firing another bullet. The locals then informed the police, and four tourists, residents of Punjab, were apprehended. They were Manpreet Singh, 29, from Tarn Taran, Aman Randhawa, 22, from Amritsar, Sukhmandeep Singh, 17, from Ferozepur, and Karndeep Singh, 22, from Gurdaspur.

Taman, a resident of Gurdaspur, who is alleged to be a tourist from Punjab and the shooter, is still at large and search operations have been intensified. The police are lodging an FIR under the BNS and the Arms Act. The search is on for the weapon used to commit the crime and to find out the reasons for the quarrel.

The firing in Kasol spread panic among the local people and tourists visiting the place. It's to mention here that the resort has already come under the spotlight several times on account of its association with drugs, law and order and clashes between locals and tourists.

The police have stated that the strictest action will be taken against the culprits.
