The police have tightened their grip on terror supporters in the district. A total of 39 new Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been identified. Out of these, the police have arrested 18 individuals and booked them under the Public Safety Act (PSA) before sending them to jails in various districts. This information was provided by SSP Mohita Sharma during a press conference on Wednesday.

Zero Tolerance Policy And High Alert

SSP Mohita stated that the police will operate on a 'zero tolerance' policy against terrorism. She also mentioned that the police are on high alert in view of the New Year and the upcoming Republic Day. She emphasized that the challenge of terrorism and related incidents remains constant, and the police are fully prepared to deal with it.

Vigilance On Cross-Border Activities

The police are maintaining vigilance on every front in coordination with other agencies. However, there is no specific input regarding cross-border infiltration or any imminent attack. The SSP revealed that in the past year, the police busted a major racket involving terrorists sending weapons and narcotics from across the border.

In this operation, eight individuals were arrested with 400 grams of heroin and three bullets. This racket spanned from Punjab to Jammu. The SSP claimed an 80% success rate in solving registered crime cases over the past year, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous year. The goal is to improve this further in the new year.

Crackdown On Gangsters

Sharing the annual report, the SSP informed that four terror-related FIRs were registered in the district last year. During this period, two terrorists were neutralized, while seven terror supporters were arrested. She also stated that seven gangsters were apprehended, and history sheets for 25 gangsters have been opened. The process to seize their benami (undeclared) properties has been initiated.

Action Against Smuggling And Illegal Mining

Additionally, the police have taken strict action against drug trafficking, illegal mining, and cattle smuggling. In the district, 118 cattle smugglers were arrested, and 2,000 cattle were rescued from their clutches. 100 vehicles used in smuggling were seized, and recommendations have been made to cancel their registration.

A total of 128 FIRs were registered regarding drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of 158 individuals. Property worth Rs 3 crore belonging to 11 smugglers was seized. The PSA was invoked against 37 people, including 12 drug smugglers. Furthermore, 600 vehicles used in illegal mining were seized, and a fine of Rs 1.5 crore was collected. In cybercrime cases, Rs 4 crore was recovered and returned to the victims.

Clarification On Animal Remains

Incident Regarding the severed head found near the Captain Sunil Chowdhary Memorial in Kathua a few days ago, the SSP clarified that it belonged to a buffalo calf. A dog had mauled the carcass and dragged the head out, which created a confusing situation. The SSP urged people not to sensationalise such incidents.
