Katra-Srinagar Trains:  A landmark in rail connectivity is on the horizon as Northern Railways announces direct train services between Katra and Srinagar. According to the official announcement on Wednesday, the introduction comprises Vande Bharat trains as well as two mail/express trains. The train timings have been revealed.

The Northern Railway (NR) zone will operate and maintain the new train service that will connect Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar railway station. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express will be the first semi-high-speed train to serve the Kashmir Valley.

To note, the last stop for trains arriving from various states in Jammu and Kashmir is either Jammu Tawi or Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. However, now that the railway line has been extended to Kashmir, direct trains from Delhi to Srinagar will be available beginning this month.

The distance from Katra to Srinagar is around 200 kilometres. Railways have not announced when these trains will start operating. However, additional information on the trains has been made public.

Katra to Srinagar Direct Train Timings

  • Vande Bharat will run six days a week. It will depart from Katra station at 8:10 AM and return at 11:20 AM. Travel time will be 3 hours and 10 minutes.
  • Mail Express will run daily. This train will depart from Katra station at 9:50 AM and return at 1:10 PM. Travel time will be 3 hours and 20 minutes.
  • Mail Express: This train will run every day, from Katra station at 4 PM and depart at 6:20 PM. Travel time will be 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Srinagar To Katra (Return Timings)

Vande Bharat:  Will depart at 12:45 pm and reach Katra at 3:55 pm.
Mail Express: Will leave from Srinagar Railway Station at 8.45 am and reach Katra at 12 noon.
Mail Express:  Will leave at 3.10 pm and reach Katra at 6.30 pm.

Stations

There are seven stations between Katra and Srinagar. These include the Reasi, Sawalkot, Sangaldan, Ramban, Banihal, Qazigunj, and Bijbehara stations.

Fare

The fare between Katra and Srinagar has not been decided yet. But it is expected that the fare in Vande Bharat will be between Rs 1500 to Rs 1600 (AC chair car). The fare of the executive chair can be around Rs 2000 to Rs 2500.
