Kedarnath Gaurikund Accident: An accident occurred on the Kedarnath walking route early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to eight others. The incident happened near Chirbasa, Gaurikund, where falling debris and rocks from a hill struck travelers. Landslides are common in the mountainous region, particularly during the rainy season, and are suspected to be the cause of this accident.

According to District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar, the Disaster Control Room received reports around 7:30 am of pilgrims trapped under debris and heavy boulders near Chirbasa on the Kedarnath Yatra route. Emergency services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Disaster Response (DDR) teams, and local administration, were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The rescue teams have recovered the bodies of the three deceased individuals. The injured person who was also extracted from the debris is currently receiving medical treatment. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as efforts continue to ensure no other individuals are trapped under the debris. The devotees were going from Gaurikund to visit Kedarnath Dham at the time of accident. 

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami informed that he is constantly in touch with the officials. In a social media post on X, he wrote,  "The news of some pilgrims getting injured due to debris and heavy stones falling from the hill near the Kedarnath Yatra route is very sad. Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the accident, I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard. I have given instructions to provide better treatment to the people injured in the accident immediately."

The SDRF team informed that they reached the accident site and evacuated eight injured individuals. Following that, they were taken to the hospital for further medical treatment. The SDRF also handed over the three dead bodies to the district police.
