Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday moved the Supreme Court against a high court order upholding his CBI arrest in the case linked with the excise policy case, news agency PTI reported. The AAP supremo has sought an urgent hearing into the case.

Delhi High Court last week dismissed Kejriwal’s appeal seeking relief against his arrest by CBI. The HC stated that the CBI's arrest cannot be considered as planned or malicious, dismissing the allegation laid out by the Delhi CM against the federal probe agency.

"It cannot be said that the arrest was without any justifiable reason. So far, as bail application is concerned it is disposed of with liberty to approach the trial court," the high court ruled.

Notably, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on June 20 granted bail to Kejriwal in a PMLA case but the order was stayed by the High Court. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the money laundering case but he had to remain in jail as he was taken into custody by the CBI on corruption charges linked with the same excise policy case.

In a major respite to the AAP, which had been facing a leadership crisis after Kejriwal's arrest, former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia was on Friday granted bail by the Supreme Court in the excise policy case. This came after 18 months of being arrested by the CBI.

"In a matter pertaining to the life and liberty of a citizen - which is one of the most sacrosanct rights guaranteed by the Constitution - a citizen cannot be made to run from pillar to post," the court said while granting relief to Sisodia.
