Kerala: A 20-year-old man was arrested in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, accused of raping and assaulting an 85-year-old woman before leaving her by the roadside. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening within the jurisdiction of the Venjaramoodu police station.

The suspect, identified as Agin, a lottery agent, was apprehended on Friday. Disturbingly, his family informed the authorities that "he has a habit of committing such assaults."

A police officer told News agency PTI, “According to his family, he is believed to have a mental disorder and a history of committing such assaults after an accident. The investigation is ongoing.”

According to police authorities, the elderly woman was taken to an abandoned building by the accused, where she was raped and severely beaten with a stick, resulting in significant injuries. Afterward, she was left abandoned on the roadside.

Locals discovered the injured woman, who had sustained severe head and facial wounds, and quickly transported her to a nearby hospital. She was later transferred to a government medical college for further care.

An initial examination revealed signs of brutal physical assault, and a more thorough medical evaluation confirmed the woman had also been raped.
