In a revised rate to an existing scheme in Kerala, one can now hire a police inspector for personal security, a trained police dog, wireless equipment carried by the police, and rent an entire police station for just Rs 34,000 per day.
The older rates of this scheme, which was taken up by the state to surplus finances, faced several criticisms. Therefore, the cost has been now revised.
Check Revised Rates
A recent government order's 'rate card' suggests that hiring a circle inspector-rank officer will cost you between Rs 3,035 and Rs 3,340 per day. If you want to save money, hire a civil police officer (your friendly neighbourhood policeman), who will charge you Rs 610. Police dogs cost Rs 7,280 per day, and wireless equipment costs Rs 12,130 per day. A police station can be rented for Rs 12,000.
Who Are The Potential Customers?
According to the order, private party organisers, entertainments, and film shootings are the potential customers of the scheme.
A few government officials are dissatisfied. They point out that not only does the directive ignore the fact that movie studios and even wealthy individuals planning private parties are far more resource-rich and do not need to hire police and equipment, but that also renting out state personnel and property falls into a morally dubious area. Additionally, leasing Wi-Fi equipment and arming police officers creates security concerns.
Industry sources claim that they only use the police to obtain authorisation when filming in sensitive or public areas.
