Kerala Namo Bharat: Kerala is set to launch ten new Vande Bharat trains, branded as Namo Bharat, to enhance inter-city connectivity and promote sustainable tourism throughout the state. These modern, air-conditioned trains are designed for comfort and efficiency, capable of reaching speeds up to 130 km/h.

Kerala Namo Bharat Train Routes

The new trains will serve various routes within Kerala and extend into Tamil Nadu. Among the ten services, two will operate between Kollam and Thrissur and Kollam and Tirunelveli, with plans to possibly extend the Thrissur route to Guruvayur, a popular pilgrimage site. Other routes will connect Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam and Guruvayur to Madurai, making it easier for travellers to access both major cities. This expansion aims to attract more tourists to less-explored areas, thereby supporting local businesses and tourism services.

According to a Mathrubhumi.com report, the introduction of these services is particularly promising for Kollam, known for its stunning backwaters, lush forests and beautiful coastline. The Kollam-Thrissur and Kollam-Tirunelveli trains, along with the Guruvayur-Madurai and Ernakulam-Thiruvananthapuram routes, will include stops in Kollam, enhancing accessibility to this culturally vibrant region. Notably, the routes to Tirunelveli and Madurai will follow the historic Kollam-Shenkottai line, offering scenic views of attractions like the Thenmala Dam and Palaruvi Waterfalls.

Kerala Namo Bharat Trains Ticket Price

Regarding fares, Indian Railways has made travel affordable. The minimum ticket price for the Vande Bharat trains is Rs 30, inclusive of GST. Passengers can also buy season tickets valid for a week or a month, with monthly passes priced to provide value for frequent travellers.

The Namo Bharat trains are engineered for quick acceleration and smooth deceleration, making them ideal for regional travel distances ranging from 100 to 250 kilometres. Analyses suggest that adding brief stops at smaller stations will not significantly affect their efficiency, making them well-suited for Kerala's diverse travel landscape.
