According to police reports, 16 SFI activists and 8 lawyers sustained injuries in the incident. Witnesses and police sources said the situation escalated rapidly after a group of SFI members allegedly trespassed into the event venue and disrupted the proceedings, sparking a scuffle.

Lawyers involved in the clash accused the activists of deliberately provoking them by causing a disturbance during the celebration. Security forces were called in to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and additional police personnel have been stationed around the court area to ensure peace.

The trouble began when students from Maharaja’s college entered the celebration venue, according to the lawyers. However, SFI members offered a different account, alleging that it was lawyers' inappropriate behaviour that triggered the conflict.

They claimed some lawyers, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, harassed the students, and the confrontation escalated when the students challenged this misconduct.

Several police officers who stepped in to control the situation also sustained injuries during the clash. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan condemned the incident and urged the CPI(M) leadership to rein in the Students' Federation of India, accusing the group of repeated involvement in anti-social activities. “The SFI activists disrupted the annual celebrations after entering the venue, consumed food, and misbehaved with the women present,” he alleged.

Satheesan also requested the CPI (M) to stop offering patronage to the student outfit, accusing the party of enabling criminal behaviour. “I am kindly requesting the CPI(M) to withdraw from this act,” he told reporters.

Neither the CPI(M) nor the SFI has issued a response to the incident. Meanwhile, the Ernakulam District Bar Association has convened a meeting to discuss the situation and determine further action, according to a functionary. Ernakulam Central Police stated that no case has been registered yet, but a preliminary inquiry is currently underway.
