  1. Police to conduct gait analysis on Chetan Choudhary.
  2. Test aims to identify yellow-hooded man in CCTV.
  3. Chetan's movements at Lohagad Fort to be recreated.

A day after getting five days of additional custody of Siya Goyal and her lover Chetan Choudhary, accused of killing realtor Ketan Agarwal in Pune, a fresh development suggests that the investigators are likely to conduct gait analysis on Chetan.

Ketan was pushed from a cliff at the Lohagad Fort on June 18. Initially, on the statement of Siya, a case of accidental death was registered. But the police soon found out the realtor's death to be a well-planned murder.

The suspicion grew after the Lohagad Fort CCTV footage showed a yellow-hooded man following Siya and Ketan. Siya was allegedly spotted signalling him. Besides, donning a hoodie in 33 degrees Celsius weather almost confirmed something was off.

The police soon found out the collusion of Siya and Chetan and arrested them. The police are now planning to conduct a gait analysis on Chetan to confirm he was the yellow-hooded man to help the charge withstand in court.

What is gait analysis and why do police need it?

Gait analysis is the study of a person's walking pattern. The analysis is used to identify suspects from CCTV footage by drawing comparisons on several aspects such as stride length, posture, and limb movements.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the police had already recreated the murder scene at the Lohagad Fort but now would recreate CCTV movement that allegedly captured Chetan walking.

"In this case, police plan to compare the CCTV footage showing Chaudhary's movements at Lohagad Fort with a recreated video," an officer was quoted as saying by HT.

As Chetan tried to conceal his identity and his face is not visible in the CCTV footage, the analysis has become necessary.

What will the probing team do in the gait analysis test?

The investigators will make Chetan walk through the same location in a similar hoodie and compare it with the CCTV footage.

While Ketan was killed on June 18, his body was recovered after three days from the 400-feet ravine. The accused were arrested on June 23.
