A tragic accident occurred during the immersion of a Durga idol when a tractor-trolley fell off a bridge into a river. Preliminary reports indicate that 12 people have died in the incident, which took place in the village of Ardala in Khandwa district.

According to police, by 6 PM, 11 bodies had been recovered from the river. The death toll is feared to rise, as more than 20 people, including children, were reportedly on the trolley at the time of the accident. Among the deceased are eight young girls.

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav also reacted to this, "The accidents that occurred during the Durga immersion ceremony in Jamli village of Khandwa and the Ingoria police station area near Ujjain are extremely tragic. I express my condolences to the bereaved families. Instructions have been given to provide Rs 4 lakh each as compensation to the next of kin of the deceased, and to provide proper treatment to the injured at the nearest hospital. I pray to Goddess Durga for the speedy recovery of all the injured and for strength to the bereaved families"
 
Police and administrative officials rushed to the scene immediately after the incident, and rescue operations are currently underway. Further details are awaited as the situation develops.

According to Ujjain's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abhishek Ranjan, approximately 12 people were on the trolley at the time of the incident. “Some youths and children had come for the immersion of Mata Ji when the tractor and trolley suddenly fell into the river. Of the 12 passengers, eight managed to escape safely, while four were hospitalized. Tragically, two of them succumbed to their injuries,” he told India Today.

Police and local authorities promptly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue efforts. ASP Ranjan added, “We are hopeful for the swift recovery of the injured. Emergency response teams acted immediately to assist those in need.”

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and the injured are receiving medical treatment. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident.
