In a fresh blow to Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee, the party's Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick resigned from her office on Thursday. She has now become the fourth Rajya Sabha MP of the TMC to have stepped down.

Earlier in the day, Prakash Chik Baraik had tendered his resignation. Sukhendu Shekahar Roy and Sushmita Dev had also stepped down as Rajya Sabha MPs.

The four TMC MPs have resigned within four days as cracks have developed in the party. While the majority of MPs in the Lok Sabha and MLAs in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly have turned rebellious, the Rajya Sabha team is seeing a different scenario unfold as the resignation streak continues. TMC had 13 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, but the strength is now down to 9.

Koel Mallick's resignation has further compounded the TMC troubles. The party had nominated her for the Rajya Sabha in February, and she took the oath as an MP in April.

According to Jagran sources, a few more MPs could resign in the coming days. The party's position appears to be weakening in the Lok Sabha as well, where nearly 20 MPs are reported to have dissented and extended support to the BJP-led NDA.

However, amidst this turmoil, good news came for Mamata from actor-MP Shatrughan Sinha, whose name was anticipated to have been in the list of dissenting MPs.

He has reiterated his loyalty to Mamata Banerjee, saying that he would neither leave the party nor abandon his leader during difficult times. According to him, despite political differences, standing by Mamata Banerjee at this juncture is the morally right course of action.

In the Lok Sabha, suspense over the MP and TMC Youth Wing chief, President Saayoni Ghosh, still persists. Amid the ongoing turmoil within the party, her name is being mentioned among those leaders who have rallied closer to the rebel camp. However, Saayoni has not yet publicly taken a clear stance.

According to Jagran sources, Saayoni Ghosh, Mala Rai, Yusuf Pathan, Pratima Mandal and Mithali Bag were present at an important meeting held at the residence of Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav in Delhi on Wednesday night.
