Kolkata Doctor Murder: As the protests intensify over the death of the RG Kar postgraduate trainee doctor's rape and murder, the Union Health Ministry on Friday issued a notice to all centre and state government institutions, asking them to file a police complaint within six hours of any incident of violence against any healthcare worker on the campus.
This comes as prominent doctors' bodies launch nationwide protests against the brutal rape and murder of RG Kar doctor. Indian Medical Association, FORDA, and Resident Doctors' Association remained at the forefront of these protests, with members suspending OPDs and all non-essential medical services in the country.
Here are the top updates on the RG Kar Doctor Murder Case:
1. Earlier today, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team reached the CBI Special Crime Branch at CGO complex, Salt Lake, Kolkata. According to ANI, the team carried a high-accuracy 3D laser scanner for a digital blueprint of the place of the incident.
2. Meanwhile, the Kolkata High Court took the Suo Moto cognisance of the vandalism at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the night of August 14 by a huge mob.
3. The High Court lambasted the state government, terming the mob vandalism 'an absolute failure of the state machinery' and asked for a report on the incident from the Police.
4. The High Court asked the state counsel how a large gathering was allowed and how they entered the medical college and the same building, which was a crime scene. However, the counsel could not satisfactorily answer the questions of the Chief Justice.
5. As the political storm intensify over the incident, BJP leaders, including Agnimitra Paul and Roopa Ganguly staged protests against the rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
"Mamata Banerjee, who is also the health minister, should resign," BJP leader Roopa Ganguly said.
