Kolkata Doctor Murder: The death of a second-year medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning has triggered a political storm in West Bengal. The victim, a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, was found dead inside the hospital's seminar hall under suspicious circumstances. The incident has led to widespread protests and demands for justice.

Nurses and junior doctors at the state-run hospital held rallies and continue demanding justice. The situation has escalated politically, with the BJP demanding a CBI inquiry into the matter. Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has called for a thorough investigation, criticising the state government's response to the incident.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul also joined the call for a CBI probe, questioning the timing of the post-mortem examination. Congress workers also joined protesting nurses and demanded fair investigation into the matter.
Kolkata Doctor Murder: What Autopsy Report Says
A preliminary post-mortem report revealed that the victim was sexually assaulted before being murdered. The four-page autopsy indicated severe injuries, including bleeding from private parts and multiple injury marks across her body. The police confirmed that the victim's neck bone was broken, suggesting strangulation.
"There was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth, injuries over the face, and a nail. The victim was also bleeding from her private parts. She also has injuries in her belly, left leg, neck, in her right hand, ring finger, and lips," the autopsy report was quoted by PTI in its report.
A suspect has been arrested after police reviewed CCTV footage showing his suspicious activities in the hospital.
"We have arrested one person who is an outsider. His activities are quite suspicious, and he seems to be directly involved in the crime," a police official told PTI.
According to the Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, a rape and murder case has been registered.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally reached out to the victim's parents, assuring them of strict action against the culprits.
"I have directed for the case to be taken to a fast-track court. If needed, the accused will be hanged. But they should be given the strictest punishment," she said.
The Kolkata Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case, with members from the homicide department leading the probe.
The incident has caused widespread outrage within the medical community and beyond. Students of RG Kar Medical College held a candlelight march and protested outside the hospital, demanding swift action against those responsible. The college's principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, likening the victim to a daughter and vowing that justice will be served.
