Kolkata RG Kar Hospital Rape-Murder Case: The BJP has accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of shielding those involved in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Calling her a "dictator," the party has demanded her resignation to ensure a fair investigation. The BJP has also demanded that the CBI conduct a polygraph test on Banerjee and Police Commissioner Vineet Goel, who the party alleged had initially said that the victim died by suicide. In response to the police action against participants in Tuesday’s march to the state secretariat, Nabbana, the BJP has also called for a 12-hour general strike in West Bengal on August 28.

West Bengal has been boiling since the body of the 31-year-old female doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The postgraduate trainee, who was on duty at the state-run hospital, was reportedly sexually assaulted before being murdered. Authorities found her semi-nude body in the seminar hall of the chest medicine department, bearing multiple injury marks.
The saffron party also criticised the West Bengal Police for using force against students who organised a rally in Kolkata to demand justice for the victim and the chief minister's resignation.

"Whatever is happening in West Bengal is worrisome. It's akin to tearing the Constitution to shreds. It's clearly visible that if at all there is a doctor in the country, it's Mamata Banerjee," BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
Bhatia further demanded that the police commissioner, who had previously characterised the case as a suicide, should also resign and be subject to an investigation. He emphasised the need for the truth to be revealed, suggesting that the CBI conduct polygraph tests on both Banerjee and the police commissioner to uncover the facts.
"Truth must come out. The CBI is investigating the case. It should conduct a polygraph test on Mamata Banerjee and the police commissioner to ascertain the truth," he added.
