The saga of Sanjay Roy, who raped and murdered a female doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, is indeed flagitious in more ways than one. The investigation against him made several revelations about his deeds prior to the night of the incident. The probe revealed that Roy visited a red-light area on August 8, the fateful night. He allegedly went to two brothels and consumed a heavy dose of liquor. He was heavily intoxicated when he left the place.
As per the information divulged by the Kolkata Police, Roy went to the hospital after midnight following a visit to brothels in Sonagachi. Thenceforth he entered the seminar hall of the RG Kar medical college and raped the medico, who was taking rest there after her 36-hour shift. The doctor was later killed by strangulation and smothering.
Roy was arrested based on CCTV footage that showed him entering and leaving the seminar hall.
As per media reports, the accused also watched several obscene videos before committing the crime. He also allegedly consumed alcohol and watched porn clips when he returned back to the hospital from brothels.
Accused Roy had access to the hospital and he used to enter there as per his wish. The CBI has questioned a Police Welfare Board member to understand how such liberty was given to Roy.
Meanwhile, the CISF has taken over the security of RG Kar medical college, a day after the Supreme Court ordered the Central forces to do so. CISF DG K Pratap Singh on Wednesday reached to review security and discuss ongoing issues with the authorities.
Talking to the media, Singh said he was sent for an assignment mandated by the higher authorities. The doctors, on the other hand, are adamant to continue their protest over the heinous act.
