Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: The Supreme Court, which has taken suo moto cognizance of the rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital earlier this month, will resume hearing the case on Thursday. During its initial hearing on Tuesday, a bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a report on the status of its investigation within two days. The court also instructed the West Bengal government to provide a status report regarding the vandalization of the hospital premises on the night of August 14.

West Bengal has been in turmoil following the discovery of a female doctor’s body in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee, who was on duty at the state-run hospital, was reportedly sexually assaulted before being murdered. Authorities found her semi-nude body in the seminar hall of the chest medicine department, showing multiple injury marks.

- The CBI detectives conducted technical tests on the vehicle used by Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as part of their investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at the facility.
