Delhi Auto Strike: Delhi NCR residents are expected to face significant transportation disruptions as auto and taxi drivers plan a two-day strike on August 22 and 23. The strike announced by over 15 unions, including the Taxi Chalak Sena Union and Delhi Auto Tricycle Driver Union, the strike is likely to take around 4,00,000 vehicles off the roads, including autos, taxis and app-based cabs.
The unions have called the strike to protest the adverse impact of app-based cab services on their livelihoods. They claimed that these services not only undercut their earnings but also exploit drivers by charging exorbitant commissions. Additionally, a sit-in demonstration is scheduled at Jantar Mantar on August 22, further intensifying the protest.
The auto drivers unions have also accused the transport department and traffic police of allowing bike taxis and e-rickshaws to operate illegally, further threatening their employment.

Kishan Verma, President of the All Delhi Auto Taxi Transport Congress Union, criticised both the central and state governments for failing to address these issues, forcing drivers to resort to holding a strike. The unions are demanding immediate government intervention to protect their interests.
The strike is anticipated to cause widespread inconvenience for commuters. Delhi NCR residents are advised to plan their travel carefully on these dates, as reaching destinations could become challenging due to the absence of a large number of passenger vehicles.
