Earthquake In Kolkata Today: Strong tremors were felt across Kolkata and across the Northeast on Friday, November 21, following an earthquake in Dhaka, Bangladesh. According to the news agency ANI, a 5.5 magnitude quake struck near Narsingdi, Bangladesh, the impact of which was felt across the Northeast and in West Bengal.

The tremors were felt in Kolkata at 10.10 AM. Many people came down from the high-rise buildings to the streets. The employees in the Salt Lake office area immediately came down after feeling the tremors. They were terrified.

Besides Kolkata, several districts of North and South Bengal were also affected by the tremors of the earthquake. 

Netizen's Reactions

Netizens, mostly from Kolkata, took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted videos saying that they felt strong tremors. Some users also shared videos of shaking fans and chandeliers due to the impact of the earthquake. 

No reports have come up so far of any injury or loss of life or damage to any property.

Earthquake Of 5.8 Magnitude Jolts Assam

In a separate incident, strong tremors were felt across the Northeast, West Bengal and neighbouring country Bhutan after an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude hit the northeast state on Sunday, September 14.

The epicentre of the earthquake has been located 15 km from Udalguri city and hit at around 4:41 PM. The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) stated that the quake's location was at 26.78 North Latitude and 92.33 East Longitude, which is in Udalguri district. The depth of the earthquake was 5 km.

The 5.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale is considered moderate in nature, with a potential of none to mild damage. So far, no loss of life and property has been reported. This latest quake comes after a natural disaster of 3.5 magnitude hit Assam on September 2.

The quake was mild and didn't cause any trouble for the region, which is in the high seismic zone. The high seismic zones are the region which are prone to frequent earthquakes.
