Kolkata Law College Gangrape: The Kolkata Law student gangrape has unveiled shocking details about the alleged hooliganism and habitual harassment by the prime accused, Monojit Mishra aka 'Mango'. In 2018, his rowdy behaviour was flagged by the Calcutta Law College in a letter to the Joint Commissioner of the Police (JCP), as per a report by CNN-News18.

Reportedly, the letter dated December 12, 2018, was written by the principal of the college to the Joint CP of Kolkata Police expressing concerns over the activities of Monojit Mishra.

Ex-principal Debasish Chattopadhyay, in his letter, highlighted the disruptive conduct of Mishra at college events, which posed a threat to the annual social programme on December 13, the next day.

Chattopadhyay had sought sufficient security measures by the city police for the event at Ahindra Mancha, Chetla. The 2018 letter was not the only instance when the college sought security because of Mishra. In 2022, the annual programme of the college was held on March 24, the college then emphasised Mishra's activity to seek security.

Earlier, reports emerged that Mishra, who returned to the college as a contractual staff member after completing his studies. had turned the union room at the Calcutta Law College into a bar and party spot.

Mishra used to consume alcohol with his cronies. After the gangrape drew attention, several accounts have surfaced that claimed Mishra was allegedly a habitual molester. One of his batchmates said that in 2017, he was banned from entering the college, except for the examination, and so he would sit outside the gate with his cronies, pick fights, and harass female students.

The ban was imposed upon his return to college as a first-year student after taking a drop due to a criminal case. His return led to a significant drop in the attendance of female students as they tried to avoid crossing paths with Mishra.
