Kolkata Law College Gangrape Case: A batchmate of the prime accused Manojit Mishra alias 'Mango' has revealed shocking details about his terror inside the South Calcutta Law College, alleging that female students would skip classes due to his presence on the campus, as per a report by NDTV.

Mishra, who was an alumnus of the college, was currently employed as a contractual staff member. The batchmate, named Titas Manna, told NDTV that in 2014, in their third semester, Mishra stopped coming to college, and later it was heard that he was lying low because he had been accused of an attempted murder case.

Manojit wanted to do 'Dadagiri', says batchmate

He returned to collage in 2017 but was told that he couldn't join student union as he had a criminal case filed against him. "He was told that he can't be a part of the union because he has a criminal case against him. We told him that he can attend his classes and complete his course. But he wanted to do dadagiri, so he brought about 20 people from outside and went on the rampage on the campus, beat up students," NDTV quoted Manna.

In 2017, he returned as a first-year student and allegedly made the life of students hell by misbehaving, molesting, ragging, and brawling. Manna said that a meeting was called, and he was barred from entering the campus, except to take exams.

Between 2018 and 2022, he was not directly involved in any campus activity, but used to sit outside the college gate and harass girls. He was booked in a harassment case in 2022, as per Manna.

Despite his past record, he returned to the college as a contractual staff, the appointment for which was approved by the college governing body. Manna added that the move had drawn widespread criticism and allegations of political patronage.

"There has been no students' union in the college for years. He declared himself as self-styled president, and the current students started hanging out with him," added Manna.

Manna confirmed to NDTV that his return to college marked the decline in the attendance of the girl students. "Any woman will be scared. He would misbehave with everyone, be it a student, a teacher or a principal," he said.
