The Kolkata Rape Case: Monojit Mishra, the key accused in the Kolkata law college gangrape case, continued to create headlines with shocking revelations about his wrongdoings as the investigation in the Kolkata law student gangrape case progressed. The latest disclosure is that Mishra had turned the union room at the Calcutta Law College into a bar and party spot. NDTV, quoting his batchmate, reported that the rape accused used to drink alcohol with his friends in the union room every evening.

The woman, a student of 2016-batch of the same college, said Mishra, also known as Mango, used to harass women at the college premises.

Mishra had once thrashed a security guard in May, 2024, she said, adding he used to threaten to shoot the college staff over every small tiff.

Bengal Police Reconstruct Kolkata Gangrape Crime Scene

Meanwhile, West Bengal Police on Friday brought the arrested accused in the Kolkata gangrape case to South Calcutta Law College for the reconstruction of the crime scene.

Earlier, the Kolkata High Court sought a response from the West Bengal Government on three Public Interest Litigations (PILs) regarding the alleged gangrape at the South Calcutta Law College in the Kasba area.

The Court also questioned why the governing body of the college was not included in the case.

Detective Department To Probe The Case

On July 2, Kolkata Police stated that the Detective Department of the police force would take over the investigation in the alleged gang rape case.

This comes after a student was allegedly gangraped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kasba area in the capital city of West Bengal on June 25. Five days later, on June 30, Kolkata Police said that the three main accused in the case were arrested in less than 12 hours.

Earlier, BJP's fact-finding committee member Manan Kumar Mishra stated alleged that the police were "hiding" the family of the rape survivor and not allowing anyone to meet the security guard, who is the fourth accused in the incident.

He further alleged that there was an attempt to "tamper" with the First Information Report (FIR) to change the name of the accused.

Police Trying To Get Details Of Accused Monojit's meetings Before Arrest

Police officers investigating the alleged gang rape of a student in a Kolkata law college last month were trying to identify the people whom the prime accused, Mishra, had met hours before he was arrested, an officer said.

The investigators were also checking if the other two accused - Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee - also contacted any person before they were picked up by the police.

"Their mobile phone location showed them moving around Ballygunge Station Road and Fern Place on the evening of June 26. The mobile tower dump is being used for the purpose," the officer said.

The movement of the accused three is very important for the sake of the investigation, he said.

"We are analysing the call detail records; we need to know the purpose of these meetings, which could have links to the case," he said.
