Eid to be clelebrated on Monday

Notably, Eid al-Fitr is a festival that marks the completion of Ramadan, a month of fasting. It falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. As the crescent moon appears, Muslims across the world celebrate this auspicious festival.

According to Saudi Arabian authorities, the crescent moon of Shawwal was sighted on Saturday, March 29, 2025, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the Kingdom on Sunday. Following the usual pattern, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are expected to observe Eid a day later, making Monday, March 31, 2025, the likely date for celebrations in these countries.

Since India traditionally follows Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting, Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 in India is expected to fall on Monday, March 31. However, the final confirmation will come from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which determines the official Eid date in India. The committee is expected to make its announcement on Sunday evening.
