Kolkata Metro Line 6: Check List of Stations and Fare For Orange Line

Kolkata metro update: With the incorporation of the Orange line, Kolkata Metro is set to expand its network. The new corridor will improve connectivity between the city's southern and eastern areas and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. 

India’s first mass rapid transport system was planned in Kolkata. Although Kolkata's metro system concept dates back to the 1920s, when the city was ruled by the British, construction didn't start until the 1970s. In 1984, the city's first underground metro segment opened, between Esplanade and Bhawanipore. The network has expanded dramatically over time. The East-West Corridor was completed by 2020, making the Kolkata Metro the nation's fifth-longest metro system.

Expanding its transit network spanning 38 kilometres through three operational lines, Green. Blue, Purple, and the Kolkata metro add an Orange line.

The Orange Line, or Kolkata Metro Line 6, is one of the most crucial additions to the network. It will eventually connect New Garia in the south to the airport in the northeast, passing through key areas like Salt Lake and New Town. This route is expected to ease travel for thousands of daily commuters.

At present, five stations are open on the newly constructed stretch of the Orange Line:

- Kavi Subhash (New Garia area)

- Satyajit Ray (Hiland Park area)

- Jyotirindra Nandi (near Metro Cash & Carry, Ajoy Nagar)

- Kavi Sukanta (Abhishikta Crossing)

- Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby area)

Kolkata Metro Fare On Orange Line

The Blue and Orange lines of the Kolkata Metro use a single ticket system. The goal of this integrated ticketing option is to make it both economical and convenient for passengers. The Orange Line has fares ranging from 20 to 45.

For instance, it costs ₹45 to travel to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay from Dakshineswar or Dum Dum. Travellers arriving from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) will pay ₹35, while those arriving from Esplanade, Chandni Chowk, Park Street, or Kalighat will pay ₹40. It only costs ₹20 to travel the shorter distance from Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.

An important advancement in Kolkata's public transport system, the Orange Line is anticipated to drastically cut down on travel times between the city's main areas and provide improved connections to the airport.
