Kolkata Metro Update: The Kolkata Metro on Monday suspended the services at some key stations due to heavy rain, leading to waterlogging at rail tracks and stations. The authority stated that most stations on the North-South corridor got severely affected due to the waterlogging. The suspension of services troubled the commuters travelling to several companies and prominent government offices on the route.

However, the Kolkata Metro assured that the water is being removed from the tracks, adding that the services are likely to resume shortly. It further advised the commuters to follow the guidelines and plan their travel accordingly to avoid any inconveniences.

“We detected water on the metro tracks between Chandni Chowk and Central stations. Prioritising passenger safety, we operated truncated services between Maidan and Kavi Subhash, and from Girish Park to Dakshineswar. Full services resumed at 10:58 AM,” a public relations officer for Kolkata Metro was quoted as saying by The Telegraph. However, the officials further stated that the exact reason behind the waterlogging at the key stations is not known yet.

“Central Kolkata is currently under knee-deep water. However, we are investigating the exact reason behind the water entering the metro tracks,” the officer added. The commuters stated that even the bus and other transport services got affected due to the waterlogging, reported The Telegraph.

They further stated that while very few passengers could get a seat in buses due to the overcrowding, there was a sudden hike in prices of the app-based cabs. Apart from this, the commuters also stated that it took over an hour to travel short distances by bus.
