Kolkata Metro Update: Services on the Dakshineswar-New Garia corridor of the Kolkata Metro were partially disrupted on Sunday after a man jumped in front of a moving train at Sovabazar station around 4:10 PM. The motorman managed to apply the brakes in time to prevent the train from running over him and the power supply to the third rail was immediately cut off.
The man, whose age and identity remain unknown, was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Following the incident, metro services were truncated between Central-New Garia and Dumdum-Dakshineswar until 4:45 PM, according to an official statement. The incident caused temporary delays, but services resumed shortly after.
In separate news, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha credited his efforts for the launch of the Udaan Yatri Cafe, aimed at reducing the cost of food and beverages at airports. Chadha had raised the issue of overpriced food in Parliament, which led to the government's action. The first Udaan Yatri Cafe was inaugurated at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, offering reasonably priced tea, water and snacks. The initiative was launched as a pilot project and if successful, it will be extended to other airports managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Chadha expressed pride in being the catalyst for this change and called for more airports to adopt reasonable pricing for food items.

In his parliamentary speech, Chadha had highlighted the high cost of food and beverages at airports, mentioning that a water bottle costs Rs 100 and tea Rs 200-250. He also criticized airport management, comparing it to bus stands due to overcrowding and disorganisation. Chadha's efforts received praise, particularly for representing the concerns of common citizens.
