Kolkata Traffic Advisory: In light of the upcoming Christmas Festival on December 24 and 25, 2024, Kolkata Police have implemented a series of traffic regulations to ensure public safety and reduce congestion in the city. Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma has issued an order detailing the restrictions, which will be enforced from 4:00 PM on December 24 until 4:00 AM on December 25 and then again from 4:00 PM on December 25 until clearance is given on December 26.

Kolkata Traffic Advisory

During this period, various intersections in Kolkata will experience restrictions on the movement of all types of vehicles, including pedestrian traffic.

The following intersections will be affected:

AJC Bose Road and Chowringhee Road (northbound)

AJC Bose Road and Harish Mukherjee Road & Cathedral Road (northbound)

AJC Bose Road and Hospital Road (west) (northbound)

Strand Road and Gosthapal Sarani (eastbound)

Strand Road and Auckland Road (eastbound)

Red Road and Mayo Road

Mayo Road and Dufferin Road

Cathedral Road and Queensway

Chowringhee Road and Shakespeare Sarani

Esplanade (southbound)

Govt. Place East and Esplanade Row East (southbound)

Govt. Place East and RR Avenue (southbound)

Instead of these routes, traffic will be directed to AJC Bose Road, St. Georges Gate Road, and Strand Road.

Kolkata Traffic Advisory: December 24 

Two-way traffic will not be allowed on Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani and other connecting roads before 3:00 AM on December 25.

Queensway will operate as a one-way street from east to west, as necessary.

Cathedral Road will be closed to vehicles as needed.

North and southbound vehicles will be directed along JL Nehru Road from Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani to AJC Bose Road.

If necessary, southbound vehicles may be diverted along Queensway via Cathedral Road Extension.

Park Street will be closed from JL Nehru Road to Wood Street and all of Middleton Street will be closed.

Only eastbound traffic will be permitted on Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani.

Both directions of traffic will be allowed on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road from Royd Street to Park Street.

Russell Street will be designated as no-entry for vehicles and Little Russell Street will also be restricted from Shakespeare Sarani Crossing.

If required, westbound traffic may be restricted along Kyd Street from Free School Street.

Two-way traffic will not be permitted on Shakespeare Sarani, Camac Street, Little Russell Street and Lord Sinha Road without permission from TCR.

Vehicles bound for Park Street from Outram Road will be required to take the following routes:

Park Street-bound vehicles coming from Mayo Road or JL Nehru Road will use Kyd Street to Free School Street, then Royd Street to Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, and finally make a right turn to access Park Street.

Southbound vehicles on JL Nehru Road intending to proceed further will either use the Park Street Flyover or take a right turn on Mayo Road from JL Nehru Road leading to Dufferin Road or Khidderpore Road.

Vehicles on Shakespeare Sarani will continue to JL Nehru Road crossing.

Auto rickshaws will be permitted to use Free School Street, Marquis Street, and Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road instead of the previously allowed routes. Furthermore, both way traffic will be allowed along Camac Street from Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani to Short Street.

Kolkata Traffic Advisory: No Parking Zones

To facilitate smooth traffic flow, several areas will be designated as no-parking zones, including:

Park Street from JL Nehru Road to Wood Street

Middleton Street

Short Street

Ho-Chi-Minh Sarani

Camac Street from Middleton Street to Short Street

Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road from Royd Street to Park Street

Little Russell Street

Free School Street from Park Street to Kyd Street crossing

Elliot Road

Kolkata: Post-Festival Traffic

After the Christmas festivities, from December 26 to December 30, 2024, both way traffic will only be allowed on Park Street, Camac Street, and Shakespeare Sarani, subject to the discretion of traffic police on duty.

The Kolkata Police urge all citizens to cooperate with these traffic regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable Christmas celebration.
