Kolkata Metro Update: The Kolkata Metro officials on Wednesday stated that the operation on three new stretches is likely to begin by the end of August. He further stated that the expansion of metro services will provide major relief to thousands of commuters by significantly cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion. While providing details, the officials stated that the operation on these stretches will benefit the commuters who travel to Salt lake and nearby regions. The authority also stated that operation on several new stretches is likely to begin in the upcoming few months to boost the regional connectivity in the city.
Operation on new stretches to benefit commuters: Kolkata Metro
- One of the senior officials stated that the Green Line connecting Howrah Maidan–Salt Lake Sector V will be open for commuters by the end of this month. "We are hopeful that with the Commissioner of Railway Safety giving nod to the East-West Metro’s 2.6 km stretch between Esplanade and Sealdah earlier and after the visit of the Railway Board Chairman, the entire Green Line connecting Howrah Maidan–Salt Lake Sector V will be open for commuters by August itself," one of the senior officials were quoted as saying by PTI.

- The officials further stated that the operation of Green Line will benefit the commuters travelling to Salt Lake and nearby regions. "This will help Salt Lake-bound commuters who currently have to get down at Esplanade from the Howrah side and then navigate congested traffic to reach Sealdah for a connecting metro to Sector V. It will ease their hardships and improve connectivity to a great extent," he added.
- Apart from this, the Kolkata Metro will witness further expansion in September as operation on two more stretches is likely to begin in the next month.
