Kolkata Metro Yello Line: In a sigh of relief for the Kolkata residents, the first phase of the Yellow Line connecting the airport to the city is almost ready and is expected to launch in the coming months, asper a report by The Indian Express.

Once open, it will facilitate seamless travel to the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport without battling traffic. It will be the fastest and most convenient travel option in the city.

The Yellow Line is the Noapara-Barasat Corridor and is 16 km long. Its first phase of 6.2 km will connect Noapara with Jai Hind Biman Bandar. Between Jessore and Jai Hind, the section is underground.

Jai Hind Biman Bandar is the name of the airport metro station. There are four stations on this stretch: Noapara, Dum Dum Cantt, Jessore Road, and the terminal station, Jai Hind Biman Bandar (Airport).

A senior engineer on the construction site said, "This is phase I of the 16-kilometre Noapara-Barasat Corridor."

The Jai Hind Metro Station is a multi-level metro station with ground, concourse, platform, and undercroft. It is designed to handle a large volume of passengers. The concourse area alone spans 14,645 square metres.

The Jai Hind Metro Station will have five platforms, which is the maximum at any metro station in India, senior officials claimed.

Reportedly, platform 1 will be a side platform while platforms 2, 3, 4, and 5 will form island platforms.

Platforms 1 and 2 will facilitate services for the Noapara-Airport route. Platforms 3 and 43 will facilitate the services of the New Garia VIP stretch. Line 5 will be reserved for emergency services.

The station will have six stairs, twelve escalators, and six lifts. The station will also house two paid toilet facilities, each having a dedicated facility for the differently-abled people, and two drinking water booths. Jai Hind will serve as a terminal and in the future will connect Barasat in North 24 Parganas.
