The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police seized 600 Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of Rs 500 denomination, worth Rs 3 lakh and arrested two men from the Baishnabnagar area in West Bengal’s Malda district on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Rezaul Karim and Jamirul, who were booked under various sections of IPC for possession of fake currency notes.
The STF has been cracking down on the FICN racket in West Bengal, which sources the forged notes from neighbouring Bangladesh through the international borders in Nadia district. Earlier, on September 24 and September 18, the STF had arrested three persons with fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from different locations.
An STF official said that the FICN dealers have shifted back to circulation of forged currencies of Rs 500 values after the phasing out of the Rs 2,000 denomination notes. He said that the STF is keeping a close watch on the FICN network and will take strict action against the culprits.
