Thane police busted a s*x racket in the Kalyan area and rescued seven Bangladeshi women who were held captive and forced into prostitution. Police arrested five men from Bangladesh and one Indian who were involved in the racket and seized several fake identity documents and currency notes from them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III Kalyan) Sachin Gunjal said that the Thane police acted on a tip-off from a representative of an NGO from Bangladesh that a 19-year-old woman from her country was brought to India under the pretext of providing her a job and then sold to the racket. 

Thane police raided a chawl in Hedutane village on Friday and found the victim and six other women locked up in a room. A police team also stated that they learned that some of the accused men were hiding in a nearby forest area following which they launched a night-long combing operation and nabbed five of them, aged between 24 and 40 years. Police also arrested the owner of the room where the women were kept.

During a search of the accused’s room police recovered 25 suspected Aadhaar cards, 10 PAN cards, four birth certificates as well as Indian and Bangladeshi currency notes from the room of the accused.

The accused were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including  Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Passport (Entry into India) Rules and the Foreigners Act.
